Assassins

Hapaloa Productions presents the Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim musical, Assassins, running July 25-27 and August 1-3, in the Rapid City Performing Arts Center Studio Theater. Showtimes are 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday evenings with a 2:00 afternoon matinee on July 27 and August 3. Prices are $20 per seat and the seating is reserved.

Bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny, this most American of musicals lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical “revusical” that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a wickedly entertaining roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. Assassins first opened Off-Broadway in 1990 and the 2004 Broadway production won five Tony Awards.

Directed by Kory Yamada, this thought-provoking production features the local talents of Blake Benson, Ryan Brink, Jace Brock, Austin Fisher, Rhyon Ingalls, Barry Longdon, Michelle Martinson, Karli Mazzone, Samson Ptacek, Jeffrey Alan Smith, Justin Speck and more.
