LEO “BUD” WELCH IN CONCERT

FRIDAY, JULY 14

Join us for the concert at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Performing Arts Center Studio Theatre.

The last of the Delta Blues guitarists, Leo “Bud” Welch was born in Mississippi in 1932, and picked up a guitar for the first time in 1945. By age 15, Leo was performing publicly and was even offered an audition by BB King, but couldn’t afford the trip to Memphis. By day he earned his living carrying a chainsaw up and down the hills and hollows of North Mississippi, logging for 35 years. Playing his guitar for friends and family for over 65 years, he remained under the radar, undetected by Blues afficionados. Then on April 19, 2013, he was secretly recorded performing at the 50th birthday of his now-manager, and the video went viral. Leo “Bud” Welch has now taken the musical world by storm, releasing his debut album in 2014, just two months before his 82nd birthday, and his sophomore album in 2015, just two days after his 83rd birthday.

Watch videos of Leo’s performance.

Concert goers will have a southern drink and dessert from Pure Bean included with their ticket. Gramma’s Delicacies food truck will be on hand with a creole dish crafted just for this special multi-day event. Cash bar at the venue. All to accompany an intimate performance with the 84-year-old Bluesman “Bud” and a chance to experience living history.
