Produced by the nationally recognized Flutter Productions, the story is based on a fusion of Eastern and Western theatre and dance. Every spring, the town gathers for the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. This year the Emperor announces that there will be a new event at the festival–a kite-flying competition for which the winner will be deeply rewarded. One child dreams of making a kite that will fly to the sun and back!
In partnership with the Suzie Cappa Art Center and Children’s Care Center for the Arts of Sioux Falls, Ascent is written and directed by Heather Pickering, choreographed by Andrea Schaefer and accompanied by Si Issler. Lighting Design is by Amy McClure.
Performances are Friday, June 27 at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, June 28 at 3:00 and 7:30 pm in the Historic Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students, available in advance at the Suzie Cappa Art Center in downtown Rapid City or at the door prior to each performance.
